The Village Players of Hatboro’s 67th Season Begins
September 3rd 2014, HATBORO, PA — There are some out there who believe you’d have to be crazy to get married, settle down, have kids… and they could be right. The Village Players is proud to kick off their 67th season with the awkwardly hilarious comedy, Beyond Therapy, by playwright Christopher Durang (author of the 2013 Tony Award-winning best play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike).
At the suggestion of his therapist, Bruce (Kevin Christian) puts a personal ad in the paper, and ends up on a dinner date with Prudence (Lisa Litchko-Stunder). It does not go well; Bruce fails to recognize his compliments on Prudence’s figure are less than flattering, and when Prudence compliments his cologne, he reveals it was given to him by his male lover. They conclude the date by splashing cups of water in each other’s faces.
They return to their therapists. Prudence sees the overly macho and libidinous Stuart (Bob Petrik), who insists they should resume their relationship, which he also has with all his other female patients. Bruce sees the incredibly forgetful and flighty Charlotte (Linda Walsh) who encourages him to submit a new, revised ad.
The only respondent to the ad is, again, Prudence, who unwittingly meets with him at the same restaurant. The second time, however, things don’t work so badly, and maybe a relationship could develop. At least until Bruce’s jealous lover Bob (Joe Forstromm) enters the fray, determined to keep the two apart, but distracted by the young and handsome waiter (Bob Harris).
Beyond Therapy is directed by Zachary Palmer, who previously directed Leading Ladies and And Then There Were None. He is assisted by Ashley Lora-Lee, whose past shows include Don Juan in Chicago and Doubt.
Beyond Therapy opens on Friday, October 3rd and runs weekends through October 18th. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8:00 PM, and Sunday shows are at 2:00 PM. The theater is located at 401 Jefferson Avenue in Hatboro. All tickets are $15 and can be purchased on their website, www.thevillageplayers.com. If tickets are still available the night of the performance, they can be purchased at the door using cash only.
The Village Players of Hatboro is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, all volunteer theater, dedicated to promoting the arts in the southeastern Pennsylvania region.
