(Comedy) Fawlty Towers is one of the most celebrated TV sitcoms ever to come out of the United Kingdom. The episodes performed in our production will be:

  • The Psychiatrist
A rather, loud, flashy gentleman, whom Basil cannot bear, is staying at the hotel and expecting his elderly mother to join him but earlier in the evening smuggles a girl into his room. A couple, the Abbotts, who are both doctors, arrive and Basil immediately takes to this well-bred pair, fawning over them. Mr. Abbott is a psychiatrist and Basil is fearful of being observed.
  • The Builders
Sybil and Basil are planning to go away for the weekend, leaving Polly in charge. Workmen are expected to fix a new door and block up an existing one. But, unbeknownst to Sybil, Basil has changed the contractors from Stubbs’ to the cheaper O’Reilly’s.
  • Communication Problems
A difficult lady guest arrives and finds fault with everything including the view from her window (“What were you hoping to see? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically . . . “) It transpires that her hearing aid is not working which adds to the confusion. Basil has had a hot tip on a horse but Sybil has banned betting.
  • The Germans
Sybil is in hospital for an operation on an ingrown toenail so Basil has been left in charge. A party of German guests is expected and Polly is brushing up on her German whilst Basil attempts to hang a moose head in reception. A fire drill is planned but the burglar alarm goes off instead, confusing everyone, and Sybil keeps telephoning from the hospital with fresh instructions.

  • Basil Fawlty – Owner of an English Bed and Breakfast.  Rather quirky and neurotic.  Always looking to better his business but always getting in his own way.
  • Sybil Fawlty – Basil’s wife.  The brains behind the business and usually fixing what Basil breaks.
  • Manuel – Does not speak English well, or at all.  Usually Basil’s lacky.  Very grateful to be working at Fawlty Towers.
  • Polly the Maid – The sensible member of the team.
  • Other minor characters to fill the cast may be double-cast.

Audition nights are a perfect time to come out, meet the director, and express your interest in helping out backstage, be it in the role of a stage manager, lights & sound operator, concessions, or whatever else you might like to do.

They’re also GREAT for first-timers to come out and observe how things are done, maybe express interest in being a helper, or read for a part! We almost always cast at least one person who’s never been on stage before. You never know what can happen!
